The slow burn that is the Queens of Darkness arc continues, only this week we got a good, healthy dose of Maleficent. 3, 2, 1, lets recap.
Enchanted Forest: Most of the action took place vis flashback this week as we discovered just how Regina and Maleficent became BFF’s of the E.F. We flashback to young Regina who still wore her hair in braids and wore light colors, still whining about her revenge to Rumple. Like any good teacher, Rumple sent our Evil Queen to-be on a field trip to Mal’s castle and the everlasting gobstoper tree.
When Regina first meets Stevie Nicks Maleficent, she looks like she just did the walk of shame during the height of the goth club scene with a hangover to match (thanks to a mixture of sleeping curse and sea water). Seem’s Mal lost her spar (literally) and just lounges around her castle. Since Regina isn’t about to loose her chance at learning some killer magic, she simply reminds Mal of Aurora, Briar Rose’s daughter whose wedding is just a fortnight away.
Now since she didn’t have Taye Diggs to help her get her evil groove back, Maleficent had to settle for the burning tree and a little murder, this was followed by putting Aurora under the infamous sleeping curse and turned Prince Phillip into that odd burning beast Belle and Mulan helped to save back in season 2.
The lesson Regina learned here was something most of learned in Sunday school or grade school: patience is a virtue.
Storybrooke: In present day, we see Regina play dress up as her old, evil self all in the name of team work. Emma isn’t to keen on this
and tries to tail her new BFF but is ditched. So what was the Trio of Evil’s plan: just a simple act of kidnapping. Poor little Pinocchio, first Regina yelled at him for not remembering then she kidnaps him only to have Rumple appear with his dagger to turn in back into an adult (Welcome back August).
For a man who REALLY hates Hook, he just can’t let him go. In order to gain access to his beloved dagger, Rumple fooled Belle into thinking he was Hook. Faux-Hook talked Belle into giving him the dagger in order to hide it from “Gold” should he make into town, then they make a “pirate oath” (which if Killian saw would burst out laughing) swearing to never talk of it again. See, the crocodile is kinda obsessed with Emma’s beau.
What do you think so far of the Queens of Darkness storyline? Let me know in the comments.
