I love my platinum locks but I have learned pretty quickly that the summer sun and all the extra dips in the pool and ocean are NOT platinum friendly. I’ve noticed that my hair, especially the sections closer to my outgrowth start to get the nasty yellow undertone a lot faster these days. This means I’ve had to step it up with my hair care routine to make sure my locks stay as ice white as possible.

So far these steps, done now 2x a week, have helped to really keep that yellow at bay.

  1. Colour correct BEFORE the shower. You know I’m a devout fan of the Dessange Paris California Blonde CC Brass Color Correcting Crème. I was using this in-shower once a week. Now I am changing my tactic. Using a colour brush I paint on the cc cream just to my root area and let it bake for about 20-30 minutes, checking on it at the halfway mark.

  2. Shampoo it out. I am still using my usually purple shampoo from DryBar. I have really found this to be the best blonde shampoo on the market.

  3. Condition, condition, condition. Using the Alterna Brightening Blonde Conditioner but I try to avoid the root area I just corrected, so I only apply the conditioner mid-shaft down.

  4. Prep for Blowdry. I prep my hair using OUAI Hair Oil, Alterna CC Cream, and DryBar Blonde Ale. I mix them all together in my palm to allow for even distribution.

  5. Post-Blowdry. To try to keep all my hard work from fading I finish off with Sun Bum Sea Spray and Shine On.
